To Start:
  • Pick one of the adages from four corners:
    • ​Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can never hurt you.
    • Money can't buy happiness.
    • All's fair in love and war.
    • Two heads are better than one.
    • Fake it until you make it.
    • Love conquers all.
    • Where there is a will, there is a way.
    • Crisis brings out the best in people.
    • An eye for an eye is justice.
    • What you don't know can't hurt you.
    • The clothes make the (wo)man.
    • All's well that ends well.
    • Honesty is the best policy.
    • Look before you leap.
    • She who hesitates is lost.
    • Failure teaches success.
    • Great minds think alike.
  • Pick one adage to reflect on in your starter document.
  • Did you strongly agree, agree, disagree, or strongly agree with the statement. Why you believe it?

Classwork:
  • Read the "This I Believe" project overview.
  • Peruse other people's "This I Believe" essays.
    • Essays with videos.
    • Essays aired on NPR.
    • Essays featured by TIB.
  • For each essay, consider:
    • What was the author's core belief?
    • What was effective about the essay?
    • What would make the essay even more effective?
  • Review the syllabus quiz.

Homework:
  • Finish starter, if needed.
  • Retake syllabus quiz, if needed.
  • Get syllabus signed, if needed.
