Let's play the lineup game!

In Class:
First, we're updating our DPs. Here's what you absolutely must have:
  • Two clearly labeled subpages, one for each project we've done.
    • "The Danger of a Single Story" (Requirements here.)
    • "The Truth of War" (Requirements here.)
      • Interview Photo and Audio Embedded (Not a Link)
      • Image of The Things They Carried Cover (Optional)
      • Gulf of Tonkin Essay Embedded (Optional)
      • Five Reflective Paragraphs
        • Project Description
        • The Storycorps Military Voices Initiative
        • The Things They Carried Socratic Seminar
        • Writing a True History of the Gulf of Tonkin Incident
        • Take-Aways and Enduring Understandings
Then we're going to be playing a review game to prepare for for our test tomorrow.

For Homework:
  • We have our project test tomorrow. Make sure your note page is in order!
  • Your DP update is due tomorrow. Please attach a link in GoogleClassroom.
  • I am accepting late work without penalty until the end of the day on Friday.
    • If you turn in something for a higher grade, please email me.
    • If you have special circumstances and need an extension, please see or email me.

Essay Reflections and Test Review

I'm out sick. I'll will be trying to answer emails and give feedback while I recuperate, so please reach out via email if you need anything. i'm sorry I can't be there in person.

Your job today is to have quiet, calm work time, so that we can spend tomorrow updating our DPs and reviewing for the test together.

In Class:
  • Write the reflection for your Gulf of Tonkin essay in GoogleClassroom. Get an informal peer critique and proofread before turning it in.
  • Complete your notes page for our test on Friday. Every thing on the study guide should already be in your notes, starters and classwork. No need to reinvent the wheel.

For Homework:
  • Your essay reflection is due GoogleClassroom before class tomorrow.​
  • Finish your notes for our test on Friday.
  • Please return your copy of The Things They Carried ASAP.

Interview Reflections

To Start:
  • Sit with your group.
  • Pull up your interview on the Storycorps website.
  • Listen to 25 minutes of your interview (beginning, middle or end).
 
In Class:
  • First, we’re going to reflect on our interviews in groups, using these questions.
  • Then, we’re going to reflect on our interviews individually, in GoogleClassroom.
    • Have a peer critique and proofread your paragraph before pressing turn in.
  • Finally, we’re going to start studying for our test on Friday, using this study guide.
 
For Homework:
  • Your interview reflection is due in GoogleClassroom before class tomorrow.
  • Please return your copy of The Things They Carried ASAP.

Socratic Seminar on "The Things They Carried"

To Start:
  • Group #1 should get out their pre-write and rubric, and pick a seat at the seminar table.
  • Group #2 should pick a silent seat to finish their seminar pre-write and work independently.

In Class:
  • We will be conducting socratic semninars in two sections.
    • If you are absent, please complete a five paragraph pre-write. Choose three of the optional questions, instead of one.
      • In your reflection, please reflect about how the book connects to other aspects of our classwork, instead of your own participation.

Homework:
  • Your seminar reflection is due before class tomorrow.
  • Please return your book once you have finished your reflection.

Seminar Coaching

To Start:
Check out the expectations for our seminar tomorrow.

In Class:
We are working on seminar coaching in small groups. For each chapter that we read, identifying:
  • What happened in the chapter.
  • The chapter's theme or main idea.
  • What this chapter helps us understand about the truth of war.


For Homework:
  • If you are in the first seminar group, your printed pre-write is due at the beginning of class.
  • If you are in the second seminar group, you should have your pre-write mostly done so you can finish it in your hour of work time.
  • Your highlighted Gulf of Tonkin revisions are due today in GoogleClassroom.
  • All of the The Things They Carried reading responses should be turned in to GoogleClassroom.
