To Start:
We're going to create "found poems" from the first page of Stickfighting Days, a short story by Sierra Leonean Olufemi Terry.
  • First, read the beginning of the story.
  • Then, pick out words and short phrases that seem important.
  • Copy them into your starter document.
  • Arrange the words into a poem, using line breaks to emphasize important words and ideas.
  • Practice reading your poem aloud to yourself.

In Class:
We're talking about how to structure engaging stories, using Freyteg's story structure and the the "Plot Map" assignment in Google Classroom. If you finish early:
  • Begin writing a sketch of your exposition or a rising action event.
  • Circle back to elaborate on your character profile(s), or
  • Work on a challenge extension, such as interview prep or an additional book
Coming Up:
  • Plot maps are due before class begins tomorrow.
